An Inspiring Toy Cabinet

Looking for a unique piece of furniture for the children's room? Niels has designed and realized a beautiful toy cabinet that fits perfectly in any playroom. Made with the careful choice of wood types such as Underlayment Finnish Pine and Multiplex Birch, this cabinet offers not only style but also functionality.

The Construction of the Cabinet

The toy cabinet is a combination of practical doors and open compartments. The Lamello connection technique ensures that the parts fit together seamlessly, which gives a sleek and coherent look. The cabinet has a modern grey finish, which fits perfectly into any modern or traditional children's room.

The Space in the Playroom

This beautiful creation is carefully placed in the play corner of the children's room. By combining both closed doors and open compartments, a dynamic storage system is created. It gives the opportunity to display toys while other items can be neatly stored away.

The Benefits of Making It Yourself

Building a project like this toy cabinet yourself gives you many advantages. You have the freedom to adjust the dimensions exactly to the available space and personal wishes. In addition, you can choose the types of wood that best fit your interior.

Style: Modern and Functional

The style of the toy cabinet leans towards a modern and functional interior. The clean lines and subtle colours make it a timeless piece that is not only functional but also aesthetically fits into the room.

Advantages of the Wood Types Used

Underlayment Finnish Spruce 15 mm

Underlayment Fins Vuren offers a lightweight and affordable option for any interior project. Niels has used it to build a sturdy yet refined base, which provides sufficient support for daily use.

Multiplex Birch 18 mm

Multiplex Birch was chosen for its durability and beautiful, smooth finish. This wood provides a strong structure and adds a luxurious look to the cabinet. It is an excellent choice for furniture that is in regular use.

Step by step guide

Preparation

  • Design and measure, then order and have delivered. I chose not to use handles, but recesses in various fixed parts of the cabinet, which I first sawed out with a jigsaw.

Montage

  • I have chosen to assemble the different parts with lamellos (cookies) that you mill into the different plate parts. This way you do not see any screws or other mounting material on the outside of the cabinet. Moreover, it is very strong and you do not have to screw anything. It is important that you think about the order of assembly. We have placed loose planks on plank supports, which you screw of course, but this is flexible for any future other arrangement of the cabinet.

Finish

  • I finished the blank parts with transparent interior varnish to prevent discolouration by sunlight. We varnished the open compartments in a colour that is already common in our living room and kitchen.
