Inspiration for making your own toy cupboard

Do you dream of creating your own deep toy cabinet that is not only functional but also a stylish element in your interior? Get inspired by Robin's project, who created a custom-made toy cabinet using OPMAATZAGEN.nl. We'll take you through the details of this project and show you how you can create something similar with your own hands.

The structure and unique details of the toy cabinet

Robin's toy cupboard is a remarkable piece of furniture that has been created with precision, attention to detail and a passion for DIY. The cupboard, painted in a calm pink hue, integrates beautifully into the living space while providing deep storage space for toys and other necessities. The cupboard has three large compartments, each closed by a door with stylish copper-coloured handles, which contribute to both the functionality and the aesthetics of the piece of furniture.

Benefits of making your own toy cupboard

Robin's DIY project shows the flexibility and benefits of making your own furniture. By having the measurements cut to size by OPMAATZAGEN.nl, you can create a piece of furniture that fits perfectly into your interior. The freedom in choice of materials allows you to adapt the look of the cabinet to your wishes, without having to compromise on quality or durability. Moreover, making furniture yourself is often cheaper than buying ready-made pieces.

Style explanation of the toy cupboard

The style of Robin's toy cabinet can be described as 'modern pastel'. The choice of soft colours and sleek lines creates a timeless and soft look, which fits perfectly with various interior styles. The pink colour, combined with the copper-coloured handles, gives the whole a warm and friendly tone.

MDF Primed 18 mm

One of the types of wood used in this project is MDF Primed of 18 mm thickness. This material is known for its smooth surface, which makes it easy to paint and provides a neatly finished look.

MDF Blank 9 mm

For the back wall of the toy cabinet, 9 mm thick MDF Blank was used. This thin variant of MDF is ideal for finishing the back, because it is lightweight and offers strength without unnecessarily weighing down the cabinet.

MDF Blank 22 mm

Finally, for the top and bottom plates, 22 mm MDF Blank was used. This is

Step by step guide

Preparation

1
Drawing made in a drawing program. The basis for this cabinet is secretly a microwave cabinet from Ikea, we built this around it because it is much nicer. The advantage is that if you have an Ikea cabinet as an example, you can easily copy all the drill holes (the 5 euro door from Ikea does smolder).

Montage

1
Not much to say, done with dowels. It is advisable to buy a dowel or make a mold yourself.

Finish

1
3 layers of lacquer and then laminate lacquer over it for protection (it is a toy cupboard after all).
