DIY camper interior made of plywood: a dream come true

Dreaming of a unique camper where you can experience all your adventures? Rokus made his dream come true and built a beautiful interior for his Volkswagen camper. Using OPMAATZAGEN.nl plywood and birch plywood HPL W10400 SD Opqua white panels, he created a functional and stylish space. In this article, we share his inspiring project and show you how to get started yourself.

The idea: a multifunctional space

Rokus had a clear vision in mind: a camper interior that is both practical and cozy. He wanted to create a kitchen, closet space and a comfortable sofa bed. The multiplex and multiplex birch HPL W10400 SD Opqua white seemed to him the ideal material because of its versatility and beautiful appearance. At OPMAATZAGEN.nl he ordered the panels cut to size via OPMAATZAGEN.nl. This way he could start assembling them right away.

The realization: craftsmanship and precision

Rokus has assembled the various components of the interior with great passion and precision. The kitchen is equipped with handy storage compartments and a beautiful wooden worktop. The cupboard offers sufficient space for clothes and other items. And the sofa bed is not only comfortable to sleep on, but can also easily be converted into a seating area. Every detail has been carefully thought out and executed.

The result: a unique camper

The end result is a beautiful camper interior that fully meets Rokus' wishes. The light color of the multiplex provides a spacious feeling, while the wood creates a warm and cozy atmosphere. The different parts are perfectly matched to each other and form a harmonious whole. Rokus is proud of his self-build project and now fully enjoys his travels in his unique camper.

The benefits of self-build

Building your own camper interior offers many advantages. For example, you are completely free in the choice of materials and dimensions. You can arrange the interior exactly as you want and adapt it to your own needs. Moreover, it is a fun and challenging project where you can express your creativity. And not to forget: it is often cheaper than a ready-made interior.

Multiplex: strong and versatile

Plywood is an excellent choice for camper interiors. It is a strong and durable material that can withstand a lot of abuse. It is also lightweight, which is important in a camper. Plywood is also easy to work with and cut, making it suitable for both experienced DIYers and beginners.

Multiplex birch HPL W10400 SD Opqua white: a stylish addition

The multiplex birch HPL W10400 SD Opqua white panels give the interior a modern and stylish look. The white color provides a fresh and light atmosphere. In addition, the material is easy to clean and maintain, which is ideal for a camper.

Step by step guide

Preparation

  • Make sure the floor is flat beforehand. Because OPMAATZAGEN.nl only supplies straight panels, everything still needs to be cut to size along the rounded edges. So: cut roughly to size, mark in the bus, and cut again. Make sure the fronts of the uprights of the cabinet/kitchen are in 1 line.

  • Now saw the material for the bed as wide as possible (so that the bed can be as wide as possible, in my case it became 120). Take into account that the drawers do not touch each other under the bed. I myself made the drawers so that euro boxes fit in them. You can then easily put them in and take them out.

Montage

  • Cut the cabinet front to size and cut out your desired pattern for cabinets and compartments. Think carefully about where the back of the couch will be, so that you can also open your cabinets with the couch back up. Assemble the cabinet outside the bus. Some parts, such as the front of the cabinet, and the module at the back (which I made from leftover material), need to be made from multiple parts. Use dowels and glue to connect these parts. Also build your kitchen outside the bus, but keep in mind that the front seat has enough space to slide all the way back. Tip: You can use leftovers to make beams for the shelves in your cabinet.
  • Mount the cabinet and kitchen against each other in the bus using blind rivet nuts in the body of the bus. Then mount doors, drawers and drawer fronts.
  • Now assemble the bed body, drawers and moving parts of the bed and check if it all fits in your van. Allow for cutouts for your fridge so that the foot end of the bed (the seat of the sofa) remains clear of the fridge.
  • Install all drawer runners in the body and on the drawers. Then install the bed in the bus by screwing it into the cabinet, and with seat corners on the bottom of your bus on the other side. Place the drawers and then install the fronts on the drawers. This way you ensure that you get a perfect fit along the edges.

Finish

  • Mill off the visible edges with a 3mm radius cutter, sand them, and seal them in a clear edge sealer to protect them from moisture.
  • Apply varnish to the bed so that it is sufficiently protected against moisture. Sand in between. Cut the fronts to size for the finishing of the bed and finish them off with the radius cutter and edge sealer.
  • Success!

General experience

Overall a great experience with OPMAATZAGEN.nl. Ordering was easy, and the planks are neatly cut to size. It would be useful if you could order a sample/test piece of each material right away. Especially with more expensive material, such as the Birch plywood with HPL used, you want to know that you are getting the right material and that it meets your expectations.
