In some empty spaces, you want to make a cupboard to neatly hide everything and create some extra storage space. The best places to do this are under the stairs, in an alcove or in the attic. With a DIY built-in cupboard of wood you can make use of the empty space that is there by using that space as the basis for your DIY cupboard. Meter cupboard

The meter cupboard can be found in almost every home. Few people have the meter for gas, electricity and water in plain sight these days. In many houses the meter is in the hallway and a cupboard is built around it. Not only to conceal the meter, but also to store shopping bags, dustpans or even a hoover. The most important thing when replacing a meter cupboard is to think carefully about the space you want to make available for it. Because the hallway can quickly become cramped, it is important that you do not make a cupboard that is too big and therefore makes the hallway unnecessarily small.

Create a staircase cupboard

The space under the stairs is in many houses a space that is often left unused. Because of the difference in height under the stairs it is difficult to find a nice fitting piece of furniture. A staircase cupboard can turn this empty space into a useful storage space for e.g. a hoover, deep fryer, supplies and cleaning utensils! With the rise of working from home, you also see more and more that a kind of shielded home workplace is created in the stairs cupboard. A place where you can work comfortably during the day, but which you can easily pull out of sight in the evening. Whether this is possible in your closet depends on how much space your stairs take up and how much extra space of the living room you want to sacrifice for your closet.
 

Making a loft cupboard

Many attics have (partly) slanted roofs. This makes it very difficult to find suitable cupboards and to place them efficiently in the room. Therefore many people make a built-in cupboard in the attic. A cupboard that uses the walls and the sloping roof as the basic construction of the cupboard. You can then easily make shelves that are exactly as long as the wall is wide. This is how you make the most of a sloping roof.
