Description of Klaas

We ordered a pine board from OPMAATZAGEN.nl measuring 294 x 90 to make a worktop in my new studio. Not a very complicated project in itself, but a few corners had to be cut out here and there to make it fit. My husband applied several coats of varnish to protect the board from moisture (it’s a ceramic studio, so reasonably humid). It looks nice and offers plenty of workspace, not only due to the length but also the depth of the board. Now I can place various items along the edge without limiting the workspace.

How I made this project

First, my husband installed slats along the walls where the board rests. Then he measured where pieces needed to be cut out of the board to make everything fit. After varnishing and placing the board, I sawed the finishing slats myself (two left hands, but still reasonably successful), and a leg was placed under the center of the worktop. We initially used boat varnish, but that was the wrong choice. After completely sanding it down, we used Glitsa parquet varnish, which provides a silk-matte finish.

Dimensions of my DIY project

The external dimensions are exactly as the supplied board; 294 x 90, with pieces cut out here and there for frames, etc.
