Description from Christian
After I couldn't find a cheap plinth in the size I wanted online, I decided to simply assemble my gallery plinth myself. The local DIY store couldn't saw the required pieces of wood precisely enough for me, nor was it possible to mitre them exactly. While looking for a good online sawmill, I came across the company OPMAATZAGEN.nl - everything was very easy, from the planning to the online assembly to the delivery, everything worked out perfectly.
How I made this project
I had OPMAATZAGEN.nl produce a total of 5x pieces of natural MDF wood, 2.5 cm thick, with a 45-degree mitre: 4x side panels, natural MDF, 45-degree mitre (long side 1 + 2 / short side 1) 1x top panel, natural MDF, 45-degree mitre (all sides the same) I applied wood assembly adhesive to the mitre on the 4x side panels and also fixed all the panels with brackets. Then the top panel was simply inserted into the mitre and everything was tightened with fixing tape. After drying (24 hours), all sides were neatly sanded, some unevenness was repaired with wood filler, everything was sanded again and all sides were cleaned with a damp cloth. Finally, matt black lacquer including primer was applied with a roller and, after the first coat had dried, another coat of lacquer was applied so that the lacquer colour had a nice even coverage.
Dimensions of my DIY project
The black lacquered base plinth has the following dimensions: - Width: 47 cm - Depth: 47 cm - Height: 79 cm, the Plexiglas display case also has the external dimensions 47 cm / 47 cm and is held by a walnut panel attached to the centre of the plinth.
