OSB 3 gray matt: what is it?

OSB 3 gray matt is finished with a matt lacquered layer. Before this layer of lacquered is applied, the board is carefully sanded. This makes the board much flatter than standard OSB 3, in which you can still clearly see the structure of the chips. Next, the top layers are painted gray. This layer is not always completely opaque, so you can still see the light brown colour of the wood here and there. The matt lacquered layer that is applied afterwards is transparent and shows the structure of the material, although you cannot (for the most part) feel it. It is very strong and can be used for both decorative and constructive applications. OSB 3 can be used in dry and slightly damp areas indoors. OSB is made from residual wood, which makes it a considerably better choice for environmental reasons than various other board materials.

OSB is made from compressed wood chips and therefore belongs, like MDF and chipboard, to the family of fibreboards. With OSB, the coarsest wood chips are used, which are all laid in the same direction and then pressed. An OSB board usually consists of 3 of these layers, with the inner layer lying crosswise on the outer two layers. This ensures that the board is very strong.

Machining of OSB 3 gray matt-lacquered boards

Just like other fibreboards, OSB is easy to work with. Sawing, milling, screwing and drilling are no problem and it hardly splits. OSB 3 has moisture-resistant properties, making it suitable for use in slightly damp areas. If the ends are left open, it is recommended that they are well sanded and treated with an edge sealer. This is because the ends are rather rough.

OSB 3 is ideally suited for load-bearing structures, panelling, damp rooms, floors and lofts. The matt grey lacquered variant is attractive for decorative applications.
