MDF Water-resistant Birch crown cut veneer : what is it?
MDF moisture-resistant is a widely applicable board suitable for a variety of interior panelling applications where the space is humid, such as in bathrooms and kitchens. The V313 characteristic comes from the test for moisture resistance that the board material undergoes, called V313. It indicates that the board is not only moisture-resistant, but also water- and mould-resistant. Note that the board is not waterproof! Moisture-resistant MDF boards are composed of dried wood fibres and glue. These wood fibres are then compressed under high pressure and temperatures to form an MDF board. In MDF moisture-resistant, a special, moisture-resistant type of glue is used. To enhance the moisture-resistant properties, the material is pressed under a higher pressure compared to MDF blank. The extra-hard pressing makes this type of wood easy to work with. Moisture-resistant MDF boards can be recognised by their green core. MDF Water-resistant Birch crown cut veneer is not suitable for outdoor use.
MDF Water-resistant Birch crown cut veneer, sheet material with a natural topcoat
Unlike melamine faced board material, the top layer of veneered panels is a layer of real wood. This gives the material a peaceful, natural look. Because it is a natural product, there may be differences in colour and structure between different panels. No two panels are the same. In addition, it is important that this panel is finished with a varnish or oil as desired. This prevents discolouration and preserves the top layer.
The great advantage of veneered board material compared to solid board material is that it does not warp. The MDF core of this board material gives it the advantages of MDF, but the appearance of solid and natural wood.
Birch wood
Birch veneer is known for its fresh and bright appearance. The veneer has a light colour with subtle variations ranging from cream to pale yellow, with occasional hints of pink or red veins. The texture of birch veneer is fine and even, with a soft grain that gives a subtle but attractive pattern.
One of the distinctive features of birch veneer is the natural sheen it has, giving it a vibrant appearance. This sheen emphasises the fresh character of the wood and adds a sense of elegance to any project in which it is used.
The bright and neutral look of birch veneer makes it a versatile choice that goes well with different interior styles, from modern to classic. It can be used to create a light and airy atmosphere in a room, or serve as a contrast when combined with darker woods.
Crown cut or Quartered veneer
Cutting logs is usually done in two different ways: crown / plain or kwartiers. When the wood is cut crown / plain, long slices are cut lengthwise. This allows the flames of the material to be clearly seen and makes the best use of the wood. When the wood is kwartiers cut, it is cut with the grain. This gives kwartiers sawn timber a calm appearance and relatively straight lines. In mix, these two techniques are processed interchangeably and used during the compilation of the veneer. This creates a natural whole and makes each slab unique.
Brushed veneer
Brushed veneer is a type of veneer in which the surface is worked by brushing with hard brushes. This technique emphasises the harder wood grain while removing the softer parts. This creates a surface with a rustic and natural texture, with deeper grooves and veins. Brushed veneer is widely used in furniture production and interior design because of its authentic look and resistance to scratches and wear. It offers designers a versatile option to add natural and characterful elements to their projects.

Editing of MDF Water-resistant Birch crown cut veneer boards
The board consists of wood fibres that are compressed under high pressure. This makes the material easy to process. When milling or sawing, this board material does not splinter. The fibres are held together by resin. Therefore, it is important to degrease the board properly before varnishing it. Veneered MDF is only suitable for indoor applications and in dry conditions.
Specific applications of MDF Water-resistant Birch crown cut veneer
MDF is the material of choice for furniture and interior applications. This can be a cupboard, a wall or an entire casing. With this moisture-resistant variant, the furniture is also suitable for the bathroom, garage or kitchen. Examples of projects are a partition wall in the bathroom or a window sill. Thanks to the decorative top layer of real wood, MDF Water-resistant Birch crown cut veneer is ideal for making bathroom furniture, kitchen cabinets and other furniture that is regularly exposed to high humidity.
