DIY floating desk made of MDF for the girls' room

Dreaming of a unique work or study space in the girls' room? Discover Irene's inspiring project, which uses MDF to create a floating desk with a sleek, white finish and a playful rounded corner. Perfect for anyone looking to add a practical and stylish touch to their girls' room.

A custom desk made by OPMAATZAGEN.nl

The project started with MDF panels, cut to size by OPMAATZAGEN.nl. This service provides the perfect start to any DIY project; the MDF arrives precisely cut to size and ready to use, making your project a success.

The structure and unique details of the floating desk

By means of metal brackets Irene has created a strong and floating effect. The desk stands out because of the rounded corner that not only gives a soft look, but is also practical in a child's room.

The girls' room: an ideal setting for creativity and homework

This floating desk fits perfectly in Irene's girl's room. In addition to being practical, the desk is an aesthetic addition to the space; it complements the existing interior elements and makes optimal use of the available space.

Benefits of making your own floating desk

Making a floating desk yourself offers many advantages: the dimensions can be fully adjusted to your wishes and the choice of materials is also entirely up to you. This way, your self-made piece of furniture matches your interior and budget perfectly.

The style of the project

Irene's floating desk exudes a minimalist and modern style, thanks to its clean lines and the use of white lacquered MDF. This desk is an example of functional design that adds style to the space.

Step by step guide

Preparation

  • The MDF board was already primed. We sanded the end and smeared it twice with MDF Lacquer filler to make it nice and smooth.

Finish

  • We painted the plank twice with semi-gloss lacquer (RAL 9010) and let it dry for 2 days so that it hardened properly.
  • After installation, we made 2 more white cable ducts in the desk and bought the Signum cable duct at IKEA and mounted it under the desk.

Montage

  • Because it is a very long shelf that serves as a bedside table and as a desk, we have chosen 4 shelf supports. It may be possible with smaller supports or less heavy ones, but this way our daughter can also lean on her desk and we know for sure that it will stay in place.
